Worn as a hair accessory, these 2 19th century Turkoman silver, gilt Guljaka ornaments have beautiful silver surfaces. Each having a carnelian center, the button with rectangular table cut bezel and unfaceted glass stones tend to be of an earlier date. Each has a beautiful patinated surface with applied gilt embossed lozenges, are typical of the style of the Western Yomud groups. The concentric design of the applications represents the 10 lunar months of pregnancy.
Each button is of very fine silver, fitted with a reversible pin back. I have used these as brooches and as hair ornaments. The pin back readily attaches to clothing as well as hair bands, braids, or hats.
Sold individually. each one will have a pin back on the reverse which can be taken off but helps to use it easily with a pin. They can be used as a brooch, a hat pin, hair pin in a rubber band braid ornament, or on a handbag. They become very ornamental!
