Antique hair comb with an elegant shield shape and beautiful markings. Old repairs on reverse with epoxy on three joints do not affect the strength; comb is in complete usable condition. Worn throughout Europe during the Victorian era, these combs have primarily been attributed to Hispanic and Latin American cultures. The comb is known as a peineta and was worn by women as decoration and support for an elaborate hairstyle. The comb was worn under a mantilla, a decorative lace shawl that covers the head and shoulders of the wearer.
