Painting by Joseph G. Reynolds, 1936. Reynolds, a stained glass artist, was a prominent figure in the Second Gothic Revival of the early 20th century.
His windows can be found in numerous American churches including the Cathedral of St. John the Divine, New York.
This gouache illustration is a detail from the nave aisle window, "signature" of the guild of carpenters, in Chartres cathedral of Notre Dame. Reynolds made tracings and paintings of original medieval windows in Europe and used them as models for his work in the US.
