A large collection of mostly early 19th c wayang Kulit puppets of various types and regions of Indonesia.
The artistic expression of the puppet makers art relies on a long history of technique combined with an orchestrated creation process. The knowledge of each character's many manifestations called Wanda or moods of each character is where the puppet artists spend years apprenticing and learning from elder masters. The costumes, paint color attributions are standard for each character as well the specialty of each artisan ie the ones who cure the skins, or punch and carve the designs, paint or leaf the surfaces and create the sticks.
