Sea Shell collecting has fascinated early civilizations for thousands of years, using them as jewelry , currency and ceremonial objects. During the Renaissance and the Age of Exploration, exotic shells collected on expeditions, were displayed in  "cabinets of curiosities". In the 17th and 18th centuries, woman created incredible artworks and tiled grottos.  Victorians brought shell collecting to it's peak of popularity through shell Sailors  Valentines, boxes, mirrors, frames and jewelry.
