Collection: a4 The Flapper

As a style icon  that became associated with the roaring 20's, Flapper style  actually originated as an after  effect of the Spanish flu.  Young adults chose to ignore the  societal restrictions of early generations and live life with wild abandon, inclusive of wearing heavy kohl ed eyes, short bobbed male style hair, a flattened more male silhouette  to accentuate  the long dropped waist lines of the dresses.

Several styles merged in what was to become " flapper style  " originating  from  Orientalist fashions  and interior design , costume from theater and Ballet Russes., Burlesque  and  French Jazz club and circus culture scene.  The more  outre  fashions and Tribal art, inspired me to start collecting and wearing vintage cloths and piles of Bakelite  bangles  and silver from Morocco whilst in high school. I was called the Nancy Cunnard  of my day.  The three highlighted movements and characters are strong  design inspirations and the woman who  dared to step out of what was considered a safe societal role  and create the Avante garde.  Music, fashion, politics and art all merged seamlessly as they do today.
